In the 17th and 18th centuries, this city was full of aplethora of aristocratsand no less than onehundred mansionswere built within the walls of the prosperous city.
Before joining theCourt of Versailles, the subjects were educated for a few months, in contact with the “aristocratic fauna” of Valognes.
They learned the good manners and codes of the Royal Court.
Today, there are about 35 beautiful mansions left. Push their doors to discover thebeautiful paved courtyardsand theirpleasure gardens.
Many were destroyed by World War II.
